Day 1 SOFIA
Arrival in Sofia. Transfer and city tour of Sofia including St. Nedelya Sq., St George Rotunda (4th c.), the Presidential Office Building, the National Theatre, Russian Church St. Nicolas, the Parliament Square, the St. Alexander Nevski Memorial Cathedral with the most valuable collection of Bulgarian Icons (13-19th c) and St. Sofia Church (6th c). Transfer to a hotel. Diner and overnight in Sofia.
Day 2 SOFIA – PLOVDIV - KARDZALI (230 km)
Breakfast. Morning departure for Plovdiv. Tour of the Old Town of the city of Plovdiv - an imposing open-air museum situated on the three hills of the ancient Trimontium. Visit to the Ancient Theatre (a well-preserved Roman amphitheatre) and the church Saint Constantine and Helene. In the afternoon departure for Kardzali. Arrival. Diner and overnight.
Day 3 KARDZALI – PERPERIKON – TATUL - SVILENGRAD (150 km)
Breakfast. Morning departure for Perperikon. Perperikon is perched on a rocky peak at 1,400 ft above sea level guarded at its foot by the village of Gorna Krepost. This fertile sheltered place had attracted settlers in very ancient times and today dozens of sites clustered around the natural hub of Perperikon reveal layer upon layer of archaeological remains. Return to Kardzali. In the afternoon departure for Tatul. The Tatul tomb is situated just outside the present-day village of Tatul, 8km to northeast of the town of Momchilgrad. The sanctuary lies inside the fortress walls of a Thracian fortress and is believed to have been dedicated to the famous Thracian singer Orpheus. The sanctuary deemed to date back to the 12th century BC represents a big monolithic rock shaped by men into a pyramid. It is 4.5m high and 6m wide at its base. Within its body worshippers have dug two rocky cemeteries, 8 stairs and a niche for laying a ritual plate. Departure for Svilengrad. Arrival. Diner and overnight.
Day 4 SVILENGRAD – MATOCHINA - DOLNI GLAVANAK - SVILENGRAD (170 km)
Breakfast. Morning departure for the village Matochina for visit the Byzantine Bukelon citadel one of the most preserved examples of medieval fortresses in Bulgaria. The citadel goes along the ridge of the hill and is 65 m long. Here the Latin Empire was crushed by Bulgarian King Kaloyan. The sovereign Baldwin has been captured and imprisoned in the citadel. Visit of the Stone Church near the village Matochina engraved in a rocky terrace. The entrance is overarching corridor 4.4m. long and 3.5 m. high. In the afternoon departure for the village Mezek for visit of the Medieval fortress Neutzikon - one of the most unspoiled Medieval fortresses in Bulgaria built at the end of the 11th century. Visit of the Thracian tomb in the village of Mezek dating back from 4th Century BC. The tomb is made of large well smoothed stone blocks. During the excavation there were found a lot of golden, silver, bronze, iron and pottery objects. The tomb is one of the biggest tombs inhabited by the ancient Thracian tribes. Departure for Dolni Glavanak for visit the Cromlech - the Thracian cult megalith monument. It represents a cult site built of vertically upraise stone blocks. Return to Svilengrad. Diner and overnight.
Day 5 SVILENGRAD – NESSEBAR - VARNA (300 km)
Breakfast. Morning departure for Nessebar. Tour in the old part of Nessebar (UNESCO) - one of the oldest towns in Europe well known for its impressive monuments from the time of Antiquity, its fascinating medieval architecture of the Middle Ages and the National Revival period. Continue to Varna. Arrival in Varna. Diner and overnight.
Day 6 VARNA – MADARA - SHUMEN (100 km)
Breakfast. City tour of Varna - a place inhabited still before the Greeks established the colony of Odessos there in c. 580 B.C. Visit of the Archaeological Museum, the Sea Gardens and 17th century Cathedral of the Holy Mother. Departure for Shumen and visits to Pliska - the first capital of Bulgaria and the Madara Horseman National Preserve (UNESCO) en route. Arrival. Diner and overnight in Shumen.
Day 7 SHUMEN – SVESHTARI – IVANOVO - RUSE (185 km)
Breakfast. Morning departure for Ruse. The tour continues to Sveshtari Thracian Tombs Complex renowned for its extraordinary decoration. Arrival in Ruse. In the afternoon departure for the Ivanovo Rock Monasteries (UNESCO). This is the place where the first hermits had dug out their cells and churches during the 12th century. The 14th-century murals testify to the exceptional skills of the artists. Diner and overnight in Ruse.
Day 8 RUSE - VELIKO TARNOVO (100 km)
Breakfast. Morning departure for Veliko Tarnovo. Arrival and check in. In the afternoon city tour. Overnight in Veliko Tarnovo.
Day 9 VELIKO TARNOVO – KAZANLAK – STAROSEL - SOFIA (280 km)
Breakfast. Morning departure for Kazanlak. Visit to the ancient Thracian Tomb (UNESCO). Continue to Starosel to visit the next place of culture - the Thracian Temple from 6th-5th century B.C. Departure for Sofia. Arrival. Diner and overnight in Sofia.
Day 10 SOFIA
Breakfast. Transfer to the airport. Departure.
